ELIGIBILITY

While each award will have certain restricted eligibility and criteria considerations, some general considerations apply to both. Individuals from industry, academia and government are eligible for nomination. The nominees may come from any discipline/area within or related to the field of food science and technology, such as. microbiology, engineering, chemistry, sensory, cross-disciplinary. Nominations must be from countries with IUFoST Adhering Bodies and may be made by colleagues or the respective Adhering Bodies. Self nominations are not accepted.

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

This award is given to honour an individual for pre-eminence in and contributions to the field of food science and technology over his/her career. The individual will have made significant contributions to scientific knowledge with impact in areas such as the following: food safety; food quality; human nutrition; product, process, package innovation; food security (availability, accessibility, affordability); consumer acceptability; communication of food science and technology, regulations, combinations of above.

Criteria: will include the extent and impact of lifetime contributions to food science and technology through one or more of the following: Significance of peer-reviewed and other publications, patents, licenses; peer recognition - national and international awards; new products, processes, packaging formats/systems; leadership positions; invitations to speak at national and international conferences; and activities in professional organizations/institutes including IUFoST. Recognition is not limited to research scientists alone.

YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD

This award recognizes an individual in the initial phases of her/his career for the
potential to make outstanding scientific contributions to the field of food
science and technology and the potential for future scientific leadership.The nominees may come from any discipline/area within or related to the field of food science and technology, such as microbiology, engineering, chemistry, sensory, cross-disciplinary.Nominations must be from countries with IUFoST Adhering Bodies and may be made by colleagues or the respective Adhering Bodies. Self nominations are not accepted.

Criteria: The individual must be in his/her first tenure-track position or with a reputable research institute, i.e. with the potential for permanent employment, and it must not be more than five years after completing the last postdoctoral position. The individual would normally be less than 35 years of age at the time of the award.

To be considered in evaluation of the nomination by the award jury will be the strength and value of initial contributions to food science and technology through one or more of the following: number of peer-reviewed and other publications, patents, licenses; peer recognition – involvement in review panels and with refereed journal manuscripts; leadership positions; invitations to speak at national and international conferences; and activities in professional organizations/institutes.
