A brief report...
The fifth IberoAmerican Congress of Food Engineering (CIBIA V) took place last September in beautiful Puerto Vallarta , Mexico . CIBIA takes place every other year in pre-selected IberoAmerican countries. Previous events were hosted by Brazil , Argentina , Spain and Chile .
This year's congress was a magnificent, high quality event. All of us who had the opportunity to attend will remember CIBIA V as one of the best conferences ever attended. There was extraordinary interaction among colleagues and the opportunity to enjoy one of the most beautiful sites in the world. Gustavo Gutiérrez (CIBIA V President), Jorge Welti, Efrén Parada, Liliana Alamilla, and so many other Mexican colleagues in attendance, prepared an excellent technical program featuring the most renowned IberoAmerican food engineers in the field as well as key international guests, making the entire program very interesting, informative and challenging.
I was mostly impressed with the superb quality of the technical and cultural events put together by the CIBIA V Organizing Committee. It was especially remarkable the presence of so many students, all of whom seemed quite eager to learn as much as possible from the speakers and poster presentations. The plenary sessions, oral and poster presentations, and round tables were all extremely well received, and it was very rewarding to see such vivid interaction at all times, all imbibed in a friendly atmosphere generated by the host country.
It is worth mentioning another aspect that made the congress so special. Many food engineers received a plaque in recognition of their key contributions to the field.
During the gathering, it also was decided that Ecuador will host CIBIA VI (Juan Alvarado, President) and Colombia will be in-charge of CIBIA VII (Gloria González, President). Our Ecuadorian and Colombian colleagues have a huge challenge ahead because CIBIA V clearly met and exceeded all possible expectations. Congratulations to all the organizers for a job well done!
