FROM: Professor Daryl Lund, IUFoST Distance Education Task Force SUBJECT: DISTANCE LEARNING AVAILABILITY
Walter Spiess, President of IUFoST, has identified several initiatives on which IUFoST should focus during his term in office. Among these initiatives is an evaluation of the potential for distance education in the field of food science and engineering. He is in the process of appointing a Task Force with the following charge:
(1) Coordinate distance education activities for food science and engineering world wide,
(2) Provide information on available distance education activities in food
science and engineering, and(3) Make distance education in food science and engineering available
internationally.
The purpose of this memo is to enlist your assistance with charge number 2. Please respond to the request for information outlined in this memo (see below for questionnaire) or ensure that this memo is directed to an individual(s) in your country who can respond.
Describe all distance education programs or courses in your country with the following information:
(1) Contact person for the course (name, address, email address,telephone number, fax).
(2) Name of course.
(3) Intended audience for the course(s) (e.g. undergraduate students,
graduate students, industry personnel, college-educated, etc.).
(4) Delivery mode (synchronous or CD-ROM, streaming video, etc.).
(5) Source of educational material (local university, distance
education company, professional society, food company, etc.)
(6) Brief description of course content (food sanitation, food
safety, engineering, process technology, packaging, food law, etc.
(7) Credit for the course (continuing education credit, college
credit (state credit hours or number of hours of lectures).
(8) Nature of the course (laboratory, lecture, field trips, etc.).
