IUFoST Core Curricula Working Group
Projected Outcomes:
- good practice guidelines for a tertiary qualification (at bachelors or equivalent level) for food professionals (be they food scientists, food technologists or food engineers)
- graduates from such qualifications will be suitably prepared for first employment under professional supervision in which the graduate seeks to progressively develop the skills and achieve the competence to work as an independent food professional, exercising judgement, and exerting significant influence on matters of food science and technology.
- in this context, a food professional is judged as being so by their peers, but is employed by their organisation to make decisions which impact both on the organisation, and meet responsibilities to the wider community (the good practice guidelines will be expressed as:
- a set of learning outcomes in generic skills
- a set of learning outcomes across core food areas
- a set of learning outcomes specific to any specialisation (e.g. if the programme includes an opportunity to take a coherent set of courses further developing skills in an area such as food product development, food engineering or sensory science)
- a list of learning outcomes in professional practice skills including appropriate life-long learning skills
- a list of associated attributes for the organisation(s) delivering the educational programme
- means to access examples of programme designs and course curricula meeting the guidelines
The working group used the IFT core curricula, CUPFST and SOCRATES course contents as starting points.
